Ringwood Backyard Transformation

Peter's goal was simple but meaningful, create a practical backyard where his three boys could run around and actually enjoy the space. The existing yard wasn't working for the family. What he wanted was a thick, hardy lawn that felt lush underfoot and gave the whole family a reason to spend more time outside. In his words, he wanted to feel like he was sitting on a picnic blanket every time he stepped outside.

With 100 square metres to work with, the focus was on creating a clean, open lawn surface that maximised usable space for an active family. The layout was kept simple and practical, garden edging was installed ahead of time to define the lawn area and set up a clean perimeter ready for laying day. Peter coordinated the installation himself, bringing in seven to eight friends to get the whole job done in a single long day. Good preparation made that possible.

Access was the main challenge on this project. Getting an excavator into the backyard required squeezing through the carport, tight, but achievable. Once access was sorted the job moved quickly. Within two days the ground had been excavated, flattened, and topped with fresh soil, leaving a perfectly prepared base ready for turf.

Peter chose Sir Walter specifically for its thickness and hardiness, qualities he knew would stand up to three energetic boys day in, day out.
