A Point Cook homeowner replaced hot, ageing synthetic turf with a soft, natural lawn the whole family can enjoy outdoors. With the old synthetic turf and gravel removed, 8 cubic metres of soil wheelbarrowed in to rebuild the base, and 80 square metres of TifTuf Bermuda laid down in October 2025, the backyard now has a carpet-like lawn that's comfortable to relax on in any season.

How we brought the project to life

With 80 square metres to work with, the goal for this Point Cook backyard was a soft, natural lawn that felt good underfoot and gave visitors something to comment on. TifTuf Bermuda was the natural fit, its fine leaf can be manicured to a carpet-like softness, delivering exactly the relaxed, usable outdoor space David was after.

David's brief was for a carpet-like lawn for outdoor relaxing, something guests would notice and enjoy. The existing synthetic turf had become impractical, getting uncomfortably hot in summer and making the space unusable during the warmer months. The goal was a natural lawn that stayed comfortable and inviting year-round.

A total of 80 square metres of TifTuf Bermuda was supplied for this project. David was drawn to a finer leaf turf that could be manicured to a soft, carpet-like finish. Being in Melbourne, TifTuf's drought tolerance and hardiness also made it a practical, long-term choice for the property.

The main challenge on this project was rebuilding the ground itself. The old synthetic turf and gravel underlay had to be excavated down to the soil before the base could be rebuilt with fresh turf soil. Restricted access for the excavator meant 8 cubic metres of soil had to be wheelbarrowed in by hand to complete the rebuild.
