Lilydale Tiered Backyard Transformation

With a garden of just over 1,000 square metres on a sloping block, the design had to turn a hill into usable, level ground. The yard was excavated into three tiers, with natural looking rock retaining walls holding each level and lawn mix soil brought in to create a smooth, even base. A new irrigation system was installed to keep the lawn and gardens watered properly across every level.

Kris's brief was simple: create a play space for the family. The block started as an empty, sloping hill with nowhere to kick a ball. The goal was a multi level, multi area garden where the family could play all kinds of sports on a lawn that stayed soft and green.

A total of 200 square metres of Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo was supplied for this project. Kris wanted a lawn that looked beautiful but was hard wearing enough for everyday family play, with a thick, soft feel underfoot. Sir Walter's broad leaf and strong wear recovery made it the right fit for a backyard that gets used every day.

The slope was the biggest challenge. Turning a hill into three level tiers meant major excavation, rock wall installation and careful planning of the layout before a single QWELT was laid. Getting an adequate irrigation system across a garden of this size was another key part of the build.
