How our turf prevents soil erosion during flooding
As we’ve already mentioned, we cultivate all four of our turf varieties ourselves on our own estates. By having total control over the cultivation and development of our turf, we can foster its antierosion properties to give it the best chance of surviving floods. Here are the three qualities that count.
- High drainage capacity | We grow all of our grass turf in a sand-based medium to improve its ability to drain away excess water.
- Thick growth mats | Our turf's thickly enmeshed rhizomes and stolons (aboveground and underground stems) help hold the soil together during heavy rains and fast-moving flood waters.
- Deep roots | Along with the growth mats, strong and deep roots help to prevent soil erosion.
Our unique QWELTS turf harvesting technique preserves the roots and mats of every slab of our turf and allows us to deliver them with a generous cut of our quick-draining sand-based medium.
