All grasses enter dormancy during Victoria’s cooler winter months — but not all grasses fade to a drab, sad yellow. We’ve got three varieties that, despite being warm-season grasses, are perennial turfs that retain their vivid green colour all year round.
Imagine stepping out onto a lush, green lawn even in the heart of a sullen Melbourne winter. With our evergreen turf varieties, that dream becomes reality. While other lawns may suffer, Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu, Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo, and TifTuf Bermuda will stay strong even as they enter their natural winter dormancy.
But here’s an important note: for our grasses to dazzle through dormancy, make sure they get full sun and zero foot traffic for their first winter so that they can acclimate to your lawn space.
While all three of these unique grasses are perennials, our TifTuf Bermuda is best at retaining its deep green colouring during its winter dormancy.
It’s best practice to install new turf during Victoria’s warmer months in spring and summer. That’s certainly what we recommend for all of our turfs, too. But if you’ve got build schedules to keep, you may not be able to afford to let months go by before installing your lawn.
Because our lawn turfs stay healthy all year, you can successfully install them in winter, though they’ll need a little extra attention. Just ensure your area receives full sun and no traffic during its first Melbourne winter.
To ensure we deliver the healthiest possible grass, we grow it ourselves on our four Victorian Farms. Right from germination, our grass acclimates to Victoria’s seasonal conditions, and we only harvest once the turf is mature and has passed our quality control. You’ll be getting the best grass in every season.
Bear in mind that our three recommended turfs will likely fade a little when dormant, but they will not turn yellow. If you want to boost their colour, we recommend using ColourGuard Plus.
