EUREKA KIKUYU PREMIUM VG

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG is grown exclusively in Victoria and is a versatile turf variety that has been rigorously tested under local conditions. Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG maintains better winter colour than other varieties and has good winter growth activity along with dense coverage for most of the year in Victoria.

One of the Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG great benefits is that it uses less water and nutrients than most other lawn varieties. Even in our increasingly drier climate. Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG allows you to enjoy a green lawn without feeling guilty about water usage. Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG might look pretty and have a soft touch, but this is a lawn with attitude! It’s tough enough to handle all kinds of activities like backyard cricket, dogs, parties and barbeques.  We’ve even tested it at a racetrack, so it’ll easily handle your herd!

Our Super Starter Pack ($1.50 per square metre with a minimum order of  $52.50) contains a combination of Good bacteria, NPK Fertiliser, Sir Launcher and Liquid Lawn Rescue (a blend of kelp and trace elements). We highly recommend purchasing this pack which acts as a complete support cycle for your new lawn and has been designed to maximise root growth establishment. This unique blend is only available directly from Lilydale Instant Lawn.

It is possible to lay Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG  throughout the entire year, however if you are considering laying Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG  during the Winter months it should only be installed in areas with minimal traffic and full natural light conditions (the area must not be shaded).

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG is a warm season grass. Your Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG enjoys a long growing season and will perform well throughout summer, autumn and spring. During the winter months it will still experience some growth activity so it will hold it’s colour and stay greener than other turf varieties. It will brown off when frost affected but bounces back with full vigour in spring.

Initially you will not need to do anything more than regular mowing. However once your lawn has been installed for one - two years it can become thick and spongy and will need de-thatching. This can be done using a de-thatching machine (which can be hired), or simply put your mower on a lower setting. For best results this should be done in spring/summer. Once you have de-thatched your lawn give it a good fertilise and water.
Once your Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG is established, it is drought tolerant and requires less ongoing watering.

It is essential that a thorough soaking with water of your lawn commences immediately upon installation. For larger installations, watering should commence as sections are completed. It is vital that the turf is kept moist with regular daily watering until root growth is established after approx 3-6 weeks depending upon the growing conditions and season. This can be checked by lifting a small corner of a QWELT up to ensure that water has thoroughly soaked the turf and sub soil. Once your Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG is established it is drought tolerant and requires less regular ongoing watering.

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG should be fertilised 4-6 weeks after installation and then again every three months, in September, December, March & again in April to ensure your turf has enough nutrients to keep it strong and healthy. A maintenance feed using Lawn Lovers Lawn Rescue is also recommended especially during the hotter months of the year.

Lilydale Instant Lawn offer a 10kg bucket of Sir Walter Fertiliser that will fertilise approximately 500 square metres of turf. You are welcome to purchase the Sir Walter Fertiliser from our Yarra Glen farm or from our online store to have it delivered directly to your door (additional charges will apply).

PREPARATION AND CARE

To prepare the area for your Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG you need to have a smooth base free of any grass matter, weeds, stones and debris. It is important to have a well worked friable base on which to install your turf. This can be achieved by rotary hoeing the existing soil if it is suitable, or by the addition of topsoil if there is only minimal or poor existing soil. A depth of at least 100mm or more of suitable topsoil is required. Rake the entire area to ensure there is a smooth even surface, allowing about 25mm below paths and driveways for the thickness of the turf.

Apply your lawn starter fertiliser or our Super Starter Pack ensuring you apply an even coating of the granules to the entire area. Begin laying your turf along a straight edge, such as a driveway or path, furthest from the stack of turf so you avoid walking over any freshly laid lawn. The QWELTS should be laid in a brickwork pattern, ensuring all edges are butted and pushed together but do not overlap or push them up too hard as this can lift the sod leaving the root system without soil contact. The turf can be trimmed with a sharp knife or hedge shears to conform with paths and garden edges, etc.

For the best result it is recommended that once you lay your Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG you should top dress it with white washed sand at approximately half a cubic metre per 100 square metres, concentrating on the joins to help stop the edges from drying out. You may also roll your turf after top dressing to achieve maximum soil contact.

The first mow can be undertaken once your turf has established and the QWELT can no longer be lifted from the ground. We recommend taking only one third of the leaf blade off every mow. As Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG enjoys a long growing season, regular mowing will ensure it holds a good tight growth mat. During the warmer months mowing may be necessary every week; however this will vary depending on how much you water it and the weather conditions. Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG should be maintained at about 30-40mm, but the lower you mow your lawn the more often you will need to mow as you need to maintain consistency when mowing low. Avoid scalping as you could damage the root system of the turf. During cooler months Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG requires little or no mowing.
