Lawn Care Advice

Lawn Care Advice Watering

Sir Walter

Once Sir Walter is established, it requires much less water than other varieties of turf. This is our most drought tolerant turf. Where Sir Walter is in a shady position, it should be kept longer at all times to allow more leaf growth to compensate for the lack of sunlight and watered less frequently. In conditions where the soil is limited it may need more water. But generally a light water every fortnight would be adequate.

Other Turf Varieties

Once your turf is established you will be able to reduce the watering. We recommend to water the turf deeply and less frequently rather than giving it frequent light sprinkles.

Lawn Care Advice Fertilising

We recommend to fertiliser our turf varieties during the warmer seasons to keep your lawn growing healthy and strong.

The chart below outlines the recommended fertilising months, however if your lawn is not looking healthy and needs some added nutrients you can fertilise every eight weeks.

Lilydale Instant Lawn offer a 10kg bucket of Sir Walter Fertiliser for $50.00. The 10kg bucket will fertilise approximately 400 square meters of turf. You are welcome to purchase the Sir Walter Fertiliser from our Yarra Glen farm or from our online store to have it delivery directly to your door (additional  charges will apply).

Throughout the winter you can use liquid Seasol on your lawn to assist with the healthiness of your lawn.

Lawn Care Mowing

All our turf varieties require regular mowing during the growing seasons. You will need to take one third of the leaf blade off every mow so that you keep the leaf blade growing healthy and strong.

The chart below outlines the recommended mowing heights for each individual turf variety.

The first mow of your lawn can be undertaken as required.

During the warmer times mowing may be necessary every week, however this will vary depending on how much you water and fertilise your lawn, along with the weather conditions. The lower you mow your lawn the more often you will need to mow it to keep it at a consistent height.

During the winter months it is recommended to keep your lawn a little higher, as it has minimal growth activity over the winter period.  Most varieties need little or no mowing over the winter months, however Village Green may require mowing every 2-3 weeks to keep it neat and tidy.
